Founded
in 1994 by M.D. Sweeney as the ACME Comedy Workshops,
the ACME Comedy School is now under the direction
of Artistic Director Travis Oates. The ACME School offers
classes and workshops in Improvisational, Sketch, and Stand-up Comedy.
Through intensive levels of instruction in a supportive
and structured environment, students will find their funny
and learn to hone their comedic talents.

Enrollment in the ACME sketch and improv programs is the only way to become a performer in one of our prestigious and award winning ensembles. There are three levels of Improv training: Level 1: Basic, Level 2: Story, and Level 3: Character. Select students who have completed Level 3: Character may be invited to join the X-RAY COMPANY, ACME's junior improv performance group.
Separate from the improv program is the sketch comedy course, of which there are two intensive levels: Writing Lab and Performance Lab. Select students who have completed Performance Lab may be invited to join the CHARLIE COMPANY, ACME's junior sketch comedy group.
Additionally, ACME Comedy Theatre teaches stand-up, and many of our stand-up students have gone on to perform at Los Angeles' premier comedy clubs!
Whichever programs you decide to pursue, you'll find the curriculum at ACME the best around. Check out the specifics of each class below!
