First off, there’s one thing this class will not do for you. It will not make you funny. It also won’t tell you that you’re not funny, or that what you think is funny is wrong or stupid. There are a couple reasons for this. First off, we would be arrogant &#$*s to tell you that the only right kind of funny is our kind of funny. That’s just plain wrong. Comedy, like beauty, is subjective. What we try to do is give you the tools to take what you find funny and translate it into the sketch comedy format. Just like a screenwriting class would help you to learn how to write a screenplay, the ACME Method is about how to write sketches. At the end of the day, we just want you to have the best chance at making the audience laugh using your unique brand of funny. We can only hope that you will use this power for good and not evil...

It's That Thing Your Comedy is Standing On

For some reason, sketch can be a mystery to most writers. Even worse, sketch tends to be a mystery to a lot of schools who purport to teach it! Most comedy schools teach sketch using the “SINK OR SWIM” method. They throw you up on stage and tell you to write something funny. Sure, sometimes they tell you to write about a specific subject, or they tell you how many people to write for...but in the end, you’re not given very much to help you keep your head above the comedic waters. This is why SO MUCH SKETCH SUCKS. At ACME we teach a little something called the ACME METHOD. The ACME METHOD is the only sketch comedy course in the world that teaches you how to write sketch comedy using a structured set of writing tools and comedy FOUNDATIONS. Now, that doesn’t mean that you’re limited to writing a specific type of sketch. Using the ACME METHOD you can write using any kind of humor and you can end up with any kind of sketch you’ve ever seen. All we do is show you how to MAXIMIZE your type of humor to make the best five minute comedic play possible...and we show you how to not have it suck!
